"Tested during the Gulf War, the HEMTT was one of the few wheeled vehicles that could keep pace with the Bradley and Abrams combat systems it was supporting. In 2004 the US Army completed its upgrade of the entire fleet. Now capable of hauling loads in excess of 22 tons, the 8x8, with two-axle steering, uses the Palletized Load-System (PLS) to quickly load and transport pre-positioned supplies. The PLS is placed on up to two flatracks for increased load carrying capacity across rugged, cross-country terrain. It has no weapon systems."
